Ismail Mahomed

Ismail Mahomed is considered as one of South Africa’s most prominent cultural leaders. With more than 40 years of cultural leadership and three Lifetime Achievement Awards, he is the Director of the Centre for Creative Arts at the University of KwaZulu-Natal where he offers strategic direction for the Time of the Writer festival, Poetry Africa festival, Durban International Film Festival and the Artfluence Human Rights Festival. His former roles include serving as CEO of the Market Theatre Foundation and as the Artistic Director of the National Arts Festival. He serves on the boards of several leading organisations in South Africa including Campaign for Free Expression and the STAND Foundation.
