Stefan Weidner – Lecture about “The World History of Yoga”
Yoga is not a sport, but part of the global history of philosophy and religion. As early as antiquity, Alexander the Great encountered yogis in India. A thousand years ago, the Yoga Sutras were translated by Arab scholars in Afghanistan. In the Mughal Empire, yoga and Sufism merged, and British colonial officials later brought it to fame in the West. Stefan Weidner’s book Yoga offers a fascinating account of the world-changing power of cultural exchange.
