
Isabel Lucas
Isabel Lucas is a Portuguese journalist, literary critic, author and curator. A graduate in Social Communication from NOVA University Lisbon, she began her career in television and later worked for some of Portugal’s leading newspapers and magazines. An independent journalist since 2012, she writes regularly for the newspaper Público and contributes to the magazines Ler and Quatro Cinco Um. She also works with Portuguese public television and radio and is the creator of the programme O Que É um Clássico?. She is the author of Isabel Lucas — Conversas com Vicente Jorge Silva (2013), Viagem ao Sonho Americano (2017) and Viagem ao País do Futuro, published in Brazil and Portugal, as well as several books on dance and the visual arts. Her work includes literary criticism, reportage and interviews with many of the most significant contemporary writers, with a particular focus on American literature. In 2021, she received the inaugural Vicente Jorge Silva Award for Excellence in Journalism for her reportage “Estados Unidos da América, crónica de uma (des)união”. She curated Portugal’s programme at the 2022 São Paulo International Book Biennial, is a curator of the Oceanos Prize for Portuguese-language Literature and teaches journalism at the Lisbon School of Communication and Media Studies.
