Né pour partir (Born to leave)
Azouz Begag, together with Mamadou Sow, wrote the book Né pour partir (Born to Leave) – a story about courage, humanity, and the unbreakable hope of a young migrant. In 2015, 15-year-old Mamadou sets out from Guinea – alone – on a journey to France in search of medicine for his father, who is suffering from cancer. His odyssey through deserts, overcrowded trucks, and life-threatening boat crossings becomes a harrowing account of flight, cruelty, but also of unexpected acts of kindness. A powerful call against indifference and for compassion. The book won the Institut français 2025 competition at German schools.
