Signe Viška

Signe Viška, born in 1997, lives in Riga as a prose writer, translator, and editor at the children’s literature magazine LASIS. She also works as a project manager at the Richard Wagner Society in Riga. Her debut in children’s literature, the picture book Kate Who Wanted to Become a Grandfather (Kate, kas gribēja kļūt par vectēvu), illustrated by Elīna Brasliņa, was published in 2021 and has since been translated into nine languages – the German edition was released in 2022 by Atlantis Verlag. Viška is a board member of the Latvian section of IBBY (International Board on Books for Young People) and is deeply involved in the field of children’s and young adult literature. She has conducted readings and workshops for children not only in Latvia but also at book fairs and literary festivals in Germany, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Italy, Spain – and soon, in France as well. As a translator, she has translated works by German-language authors such as Marc-Uwe Kling, Andreas Steinhöfel, Wolf Erlbruch, Elisabeth Steinkellner, Dita Zipfel, and others into Latvian.
