Taqi Akhlaqi (Afghanistan/ Germany)

Someone Understand the Germans

The Afghan author Taqi Akhlaqi reads from his reportage The World Is an Eternal Road in the anthology Refugees Worldwide 3 and from Someone Understand the Germans – a perspective on Germany from the viewpoint of a newcomer. With subtle irony, humor, and depth, he tells of the challenges of starting over, the wonder at German peculiarities, and the quiet, often comical moments of everyday life in a foreign land. Amid language barriers, cultural differences, and memories of what has been lost, a multifaceted portrait emerges – about flight, identity, and the search for belonging, and about how one not only gets to know others, but also rediscovers oneself in a new country.
