Die Frau Als Mensch (The Woman as Human Being)

In books about the Stone Age, we primarily see men hunting, striking flint, or painting caves. However, most of the human images left to us by Ice Age people themselves depict women. What kind of societies were these that portrayed women and their gender so centrally and without shame?

After years of research, Ulli Lust returns with a large-scale nonfiction comic about the origins of art and the importance of empathy for the survival of our species: Around the archaic-feminine figurines unfolds a forgotten world where the hero’s journey was a group effort—one that could only be completed together by women, men, children, or even non-binary people, sometimes playing richly adorned roles.
