Teresa Grøtan

Teresa Grøtan (born 1974, Stokmarknes, Norway) is the director of the Bergen International Literary Festival. In her career, Grøtan has been committed to the role of arts and culture in the work for political change and freedom of expression. With a background as a journalist, she holds an MA from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Bergen, Norway. Grøtan has published a number of books, most recently Før øya synker (Gyldendal, 2018) and a series of essays (vinduet.no and thedial.world, 2024). Grøtan has served on several boards for Norwegian literary organisations, and is presently a board member of Norwegian PEN. She headed the festival and event series Verden i Bergen, was the editor of the literary journal Syn og Segn and the founding editor of the magazine Global Knowledge. Grøtan won the Blix prize for her books aimed at children and young people.
