Lídia Jorge
Lídia Jorge made her literary debut with the publication of O Dia dos Prodígios (1980), one of the most emblematic works of post-revolution Portuguese literature. Since then, she has published works in the fields of fiction, short stories, essays, theatre, chronicles and poetry. Her texts have been adapted for theatre, television and cinema and have received the most prestigious national literary awards. Among her most notable books are The Murmuring Coast, The Migrant Painter Of Birds, The Wind Whistling in the Cranes, Os Memoráveis, Estuário and Mercy, a multi-award-winning novel that received the Prix Médicis étranger, awarded for the first time to an author writing in Portuguese. Widely translated and published abroad, her international distinctions include the ALBATROS Prize from the Günter Grass Foundation and the FIL Prize for Literature in Romance Languages in Guadalajara. In 2025, she received the Pessoa Prize, becoming the first female writer to be awarded this distinction, and in 2026 she received the Camões Prize.
