Iryna Fingerova

Iryna Fingerova is a Jewish-Ukrainian writer from Odesa who has been working as a physician in Germany since 2020. Alongside her literary work, she writes journalism and has recently contributed to Tages-Anzeiger (Zurich), Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin, and Die Zeit. She was a finalist for the 2024 Floriana Prize, her essay Hausbesuch (House Call) was nominated for the 2024 Reporter:innen Prize, and she was shortlisted for the Peter Binderer Prize in 2023. Her literary work includes short stories, novels, essays, and children’s books. Her novel Zugwind is scheduled to be published by Rowohlt Verlag in 2026. Previously, she published the novels Tamagotchi (2009), Sur-Tuk (2016), Placebo (2018), and Zamki (2020) in Ukraine. She is also the author of the children’s books Trink mal (Have a Drink, 2022) and Kwibik, der Angstfresser (Kwibik, the Fear Eater, 2023). Fingerova’s works have been translated into German, English, Serbian, Turkish, and Lithuanian. Her short stories have appeared in German-language literary magazines including kulturmagazin (Hamburg), Ostragehege (Dresden), Maulkorb (Dresden), LICHTUNGEN (Graz), orte (Switzerland), and entwürfe (Switzerland). From 2021 to 2025, Iryna Fingerova served on the board of Plattform Dresden e.V., where she organized humanitarian aid projects for Ukraine and promoted German-Ukrainian cultural exchange.
