Krista Kaer

Krista Kaer, born on July 20, 1951, is an Estonian publisher, translator, and literary promoter. She studied at the University of Tartu, graduating in 1971 with a Bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature. She is currently Editor-in-Chief at Varrak Publishers Ltd. She is also one of the founders of the Tallinn Literary Festival HeadRead and serves as a member of its board. In 1995, Krista Kaer was awarded a Fulbright scholarship and spent a study period in Buffalo, USA. In 2000, she received the annual translation award of the Estonian Cultural Endowment for her translations of Doris Lessing’s The Golden Notebook and the first four Harry Potter books, which she translated together with Kaisa Kaer. In 2026, she received the State Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of her outstanding contribution over the course of her career. Krista Kaer is a member of the Estonian Writers’ Union and has translated more than 100 works throughout her career.
